About Us-Our Story

Our Story

AquaBandz was born on the shores of Hawaii in 2023—but the story behind it began long before that.

Like millions of others, I (Brandy) have lived my entire life with water sensitivity in my ears. Throughout my entire life this meant sitting out, of swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and other water activities—not because I didn’t want to join, but because I couldn’t due to having to limit water over-exposure to the ears.

Over the years, I tried everything on the market—swim caps, neoprene ear covers, etc.—but nothing ever truly worked. This isn't just my story - millions of others of all ages face the same obstacle, due to ear tubes, infections, the need for water resistant hearing aids, swimmer's ear, or just personal preference - they find themselves watching from the sidelines instead of being able to jump in and participate. For those that have this experience or know someone who does, we can recognize that it’s a strange and isolating feeling to be present in the moment but unable to fully participate.

My solution to this difficult challenge came on a trip to Hawaii with Patrick in 2023.

As I had not yet shared with him that this was an obstacle I had, he proactively planned the ultimate water-lover’s itinerary: surfing, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking—all things to make the most of our time in Hawaii. Here, I found myself unwilling to miss out on another moment, memory, or experience in the water. I wanted to be able to be there, be present and do the things he was doing. With that motivation and his encouragement, the first AquaBandz product came to life. That week was the first time ever that I had been able to do all things water that I wanted to - and without worry.

To our surprise, while in Hawaii, as well as the times we have returned there or visited other water-related places, people of all ages approached us to ask about it. As we shared my story, they shared theirs—or stories of their kids, spouses, and friends facing the same limitations. That’s when we realized: this wasn’t just my story. It was our story. And AquaBandz had the power to help so many others be included and part of the activities again, too.

What started as a personal solution quickly became a mission—to help children, adults, and families break free from the barrier of ear-related water limitations and finally enjoy the freedom to jump in, not sit it out.

Today, we continue to return to Hawaii, doing all the water activities I once had to think twice about. And now, thanks to AquaBandz, I don’t have to wonder if I can participate—I just do. That’s the gift we want to give others, too.

Because everyone deserves to feel confident, included, and connected in the water. And AquaBandz is here to make sure of it.
